A Compelling Case for Continuous Deployment

Google Cloud’s DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) team have identified four key metrics that indicate the performance of a software development team through their research:
Deployment Frequency—How often an organisation successfully releases to production
Lead Time for Changes—The amount of time it takes a commit to get into production
Change Failure Rate—The percentage of deployments causing a failure in production
Time to Restore Service—How long it takes an organisation to recover from a failure in production
Continuous Deployment (CD) is the only way to significantly increase Deployment Frequency and I’ll explain why I believe that is a precursor to improvement of the other three metrics, and how to get started on your journey towards deploying at will (even on Fridays).
